Birthday Moon: The Moon Phase on the Day You Were Born
Enter your date of birth to see the moon phase you were born under — and discover every full moon that lands on your birthday in your lifetime.
How the birthday moon calculator works
Every number on this page is computed astronomically in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Here is exactly what happens when you enter your birthday.
1. Moon phase on your birth date
We evaluate the Moon–Sun–Earth geometry at local noon of your birth date in your timezone, giving the phase name, illumination percentage and phase image shown above.
2. Finding every full moon birthday
We scan every full moon from your birth year to your 100th (max year 2100), refine each full moon moment to the minute, and keep the ones whose local calendar date equals your birth date.
3. Traditional names and special flags
Each hit gets its North-American folk name by month (Wolf Moon, Strawberry Moon…). A second full moon in the same calendar month is flagged Blue Moon; full moons nearer than 360,000 km are flagged Supermoon, farther than 405,000 km Micromoon.
4. Timezone handling
A full moon "on your birthday" depends on where you were: the same instant can be the 14th in Tokyo and the 15th in London. We use your browser timezone; if you were born elsewhere, judge borderline cases accordingly.
Accuracy note: phases use the Meeus-based model (the same engine as our daily moon phase tool). Timing is typically within a few hours — always enough to pick the right calendar date, but if you were born within a few hours of an exact full moon, your timezone decides the date.
Birthday moon FAQ
What is a birthday moon?
Your birthday moon is simply the phase of the Moon on the calendar date you were born — how full it was when you arrived. It is a fact of astronomy, independent of your zodiac sign.
How often does a full moon fall on your birthday?
On average roughly once every 19 years, but the gaps are irregular — some people wait 30+ years between full moon birthdays, others get two within a decade. Enter your birth date above to see your exact list.
What is a Blue Moon birthday?
If a second full moon of a calendar month lands on your birthday, that birthday moon is a Blue Moon by the popular monthly definition. It is rare — the second full moon of a month always falls on the 29th–31st.
Why do some websites show a different moon phase for my birthday?
Two reasons: timezone boundaries (a full moon at 23:30 UTC is a different date in New York vs Tokyo) and different calculation models. If you were born within a few hours of a phase change, check the exact full moon moment shown in your results.
Does the moon phase on your birthday affect your personality?
There is no scientific evidence that birth moon phase influences personality — that belongs to folklore and symbolism, which many people enjoy as a reflection tool. We keep the two strictly separate: the astronomy on this page is factual; any meaning you read into it is yours.
Astronomy fact vs. symbolism — kept separate, on purpose
Everything above the line — phase names, illumination, dates, countdowns — is measurable astronomy, computed from the Moon’s real orbit.
Ideas like “full moon babies are expressive” or “new moon births mean fresh starts” come from folklore traditions. They are not science. If you use your birthday moon as a reflection prompt, enjoy it as such — we will never dress symbolism up as astronomy.
